In keeping with the global and national trends, this
conference will endeavour to bring champions and leaders from the public
and private sector to share their thoughts and experiences on the topic
of business integrity. The event promises to be a vibrant platform for
actionable discussions on the issue of promoting ethical and responsible
business conduct. It will offer insights and perspectives on the
challenges and opportunities to businesses that aspire to follow
responsible business conduct.
Background
Governments across the globe are stepping up efforts to establish good
framework conditions for business to operate in a transparent and
ethical business environment. Business Integrity is no longer viewed as
desirable attribute, but a perquisite for business to operate, grow and
sustain itself. The recent developments in India also point towards this
direction. Reforms, legislations and policy initiatives are all geared
towards addressing this very issue, which is seen as the primary
stumbling block to economic progress and equitable growth. Companies
today understand integrity to be integral to business and a lever to
gaining competitive advantage in a global market. Additionally, there is
a growing cognisance among the businesses about the multitude of risks
that they expose themselves to when indulging in corrupt practices.
Furthermore,
there is an increasing international focus on the topic; several
international organisations have placed the agenda high on their
priority list. This is also reflected in the United Nations’ Sustainable
Development Goals. Target 16.5 calls for a sustainable reduction of
corruption and bribery in all its forms. International economic
cooperation forums such as the Group of 20 (G20)/Business 20 (B20) are
actively engaged in this topic, involving deliberations on
anti-corruption strategies at intergovernmental level.
