Eschborn, Germany

On 21 February, the Alliance for Integrity held its fifth global Steering Committee Meeting since the official launch. The meeting took place at the headquarters of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Eschborn.
Dr. Mike Falke, Head of the Section Governance and Human Rights at GIZ and Silvia Heer, Economic Affairs Officer Private Sector Development, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), opened the meeting with a warm welcome to all participants. This was followed by a round of introductions of all participants of the meeting. In this regard, special attention was paid to the welcoming the new member organisation, the Basel Institute on Governance.

Following the introductory part, members of the Steering Committee stated their personal highlights of their cooperation with the Alliance for Integrity and their wishes for the future. After the presentation of the personal experiences, an overview on the achieved goals and highlights of the second half of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 was presented. In the period following the official launch in October 2015, the Alliance for Integrity has become an established network that is acknowledged by partners on all levels - on the global, the regional, and the country level.

Further time was dedicated to discuss the future plans of the Alliance for Integrity. The Steering Committee members looked on processes that have taken place since June 2017, when the previous meeting of the Steering Committee took place. Future aims include reaching new target groups, e.g. state-owned enterprises, developing new training methods, and finding digital solutions in order to foster integrity in the private sector, among others goals.

At the end of the meeting some farewell remarks were stated adressing Noor Naqschbandi. As he will change position within GIZ, this was his last meeting with the Steering Committee as the Director of the Alliance for Integrity. He was thanked for his dedication over the last few years to promote the successful development of the initiative.

The Steering Committee has members from various sectors who meet twice a year in order to provide guidance for the Alliance for Integrity’s operations and to support the network growth steadily.

Members of the Steering Committee include representatives from the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Basel Institute on Governance, the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Global Compact Network, Merck Group, Merck Group Indonesia, Public Procurement Authority Ghana, SAP SE, Seegos, Siemens Brazil, Transparency International Deutschland e.V., and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
