Business representatives learn about Code of Conduct in Ghana

Representatives of private sector organisations and public sector institutions have benefitted from practical lessons on Code of Conduct from seasoned compliance and anti-corruption practitioners at the Alliance for Integrity Dialogue held in Accra.

The event, the second in a series of awareness-raising dialogues, was on “The Role of a Code of Conduct in Ensuring Integrity”, and attracted over 60 participants from the telecommunication, manufacturing, shipping, engineering, financial services and agri-business sectors. Participants had the opportunity of learning about the basics of a Code of Conduct, practical importance of a Code of Conduct and a Code of Conduct from the viewpoint of the public sector. The first edition of the Alliance for Integrity Dialogue took place in Tema in November 2017 on the topic “Understanding and Doing Business with Integrity”.

Prior to the main dialogue session, participants watched the various episodes of the Alliance for Integrity’s Vodcast on Understanding Corruption and Corruption Prevention, and received other corruption preventions tools such as the No eXcuses Pocket Guide and Ensuring Compliance – A Practical Handbook for Ghanaian Businesses at the end of the programme.

Speakers and panellists for the dialogue were Frank Owusu-Ansah, Frank Owusu-Ansah, HSSE & Claims Manager - Central & Western Africa Area, DAMCO Logistics GH Ltd., Helen Opoku-Agyemang, Controls, Compliance and Ethics Director, Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited and Richard Quayson, Deputy Commissioner, Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). Mr. Owusu-Ansah’s input was on the Basics of a Code of Conduct whilst Helen Opoku-Agyemang contributed on the Importance of a Code of Conduct. Richard Quayson’s presentation covered a Code of Conduct from the Perspective of the Public Sector. The session was moderated by Abraham Agbozo, Compliance Counsel at Newmont Ghana Gold Limited.
Raymond Ahiadorme, Network Manager Ghana for Alliance for Integrity called on participants to spread the word and also deepen their engagement with the Alliance for Integrity in order to benefit from future activities of the network.
