Accra (Ghana)

Representatives of 18 Ghanaian state-owned enterprises participated in an anti-corruption and compliance training in Accra on 23rd July, 2023. Organised by the Alliance for Integrity in partnership with the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), the course provided a platform to share insights on corruption requirements and risks, in order to support the design and implementation of internal compliance measures, and to promote integrity in supply chains and the economic environment.

The training was participatory and educative, as the participants shared and discussed real-life experiences of the forms of corruption they encounter in their various public institutions. At the end of the training, the participants were empowered and equipped with the tools to counter bribery and corruption, to help establish and foster integrity in the state-owned enterprises. Participants represented a wide variety of sectors which included energy, natural resources, ICT, entertainment, mobility, infrastructure, procurement, agriculture, and transportation.

Public institutions are particularly vulnerable to corruption. According to the Ghana Integrity of Public Services Survey (GIPSS), the country lost more than 446,000 US Dollars in 2021. The Afrobarometer study done by Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) in 2022, shows that state-owned entities are perceived as the country’s most corrupt institutions. The Alliance for Integrity has therefore created a tailor-made training course which addresses representatives of state-owned enterprises.
