Transparency International Germany has long been calling for the introduction of a corporate sanctions law. The Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection introduced into the legislative process a draft for the “Law to Strengthen Business Integrity”. While some fundamentally reject the law, others think it does not go far enough. Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht commented on the draft law: "With the law, we ensure that honest companies are not playing stupid".
But how must the law be designed so that it does not question the integrity of German companies excessively, while also making sure that companies are sufficiently held accountable? Is the current draft of the Federal Ministry of Justice practical and useful for both companies and law enforcement institutions? Or does the law fail to solve the real prosecution deficits related to lack of resources and inconsistent law enforcement?
These and other questions about the proposed “Law to Strengthen Business Integrity” will be examined and discussed from different sides on the International Anti-Corruption Day. Representatives from politics, business and civil society will sit on the podium so that a broad spectrum of opinions is expressed.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 09 December 2020, 17:00 - 18:30 (GMT+1) in German language.
The panel is relevant for all actors of the private sector, public sector, civil society, academia and international institutions. The objective is to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices. It will be of further interest to CEOs, Chief Compliance Officers and Executives responsible for broader business integrity issues.
The registration is free of charge.
