On March 11th, the Alliance for Integrity carried out the forum “Transparency as the promoter of the National Industry” in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event was part of the Alliance for Integrity's regional training programme “De Empresas para Empresas” and represented a space for debate and knowledge sharing among more than 60 representatives of embassies, ministries, high level international organisations and compliance officers from multinational companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
In his welcoming speech, Enrique Genzone, President of the AHK Argentina and CEO of Siemens Argentina emphasised: “It is very important to seek public-private dialogue as a genuine form of attracting investment and promoting National Industry. For this change to take place, we need that all actors join efforts”.
Noor Naqschbandi, Director of the Alliance for Integrity, highlighted in his speech that a compliance programme not only helps in preventing cases of corruption, but also opens up doors to new business opportunities.
The second part of the event consisted of a panel discussion that focused on how to promote ethics and transparency within businesses with a public-private framework. The panel included representatives of the Argentinian Anti-Corruption Office and compliance officers from large local and international companies. It was concluded that collective action from both sectors is needed in order to be able to end corruption in the private sector. The public sector plays a major role acting not only as the controlling and sanctioning body, but also as the promoter of incentives, in particular for SMEs.
