05.09.2016

Bad Neuenahr, Germany

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH held its Symposium on Economic and Social Development, Employment in Bad Neuenahr, Germany from September 5th to 9th. The overarching topic was the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The participants familiarized themselves with new and innovative approaches and shared experiences of implementing the SDGs in a variety of regional contexts

The Alliance for Integrity participated in two different sessions, voicing the importance of corruption-prevention in the private sector. Corruption is regarded as widespread practice of the daily business, thereby presenting a cross-cutting challenge for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. Increasing inequalities, reduced competitiveness of companies are just a couple of examples of the negative impact of corruption.

On September5, the Director of the Alliance for Integrity, Noor Naqschbandi, took part as a panelist in the session ‘New Partnerships for Sustainable Trade Facilitation’, with a special focus on potentials and challenges of partnerships with the private sector.

On September 7, Kirsten Lorscheid and Florian Lair headed the interactive panel-session ‘No eXcuses – Countering Common Excuses for Corrupt Behaviour’. New ways of preventing corruption in daily business interaction, giving counter-arguments that invalidate common excuses for corrupt behavior, were debated with the participants of the session.
