High Level Conference on Business Integrity into Practice: Approaches & Ways

After a warm welcome by Noor Naqschbandi, Director, Alliance for Integrity and P.R. Ramesh, President, Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry, opening statements by Ashish Kumar Chauhan, Chief Executive Officer, The Bombay Stock Exchange followed. He spoke about the importance of reporting and disclosures by companies and how technology can be used to further push forward this agenda. He also went on to elaborate potential impediments to tackle corrupt practices and existing complexities.

Shishir Joshipura, Managing Director and Country Manager, SKF India Limited, Sudhir Rao, Managing Director, Skoda Auto India Private Limited emphasised the importance of the business responsibility and integrity in all business operations and making a strong business case for fostering a culture of responsible business conduct.

The conference also featured a panel discussion on compliance trends and developments - with a specific focus on sector specific insights and challenges. P.R. Ramesh, Chairman, Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP and Prasad Chandran, the Alliance for Integrity’s Advisory Group Chair in India, discussed issues facing the services and chemical industry. Disclosures and reporting mechanisms as an example for good practice were also mentioned.

Neville Gandhi, Vice President Compliance at Siemens India, presented the case of Siemens and shared good practice examples which help to overcome compliance challenges and turn compliance efforts into competitive advantage.
The session as moderated by Bernhard Steinruecke, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce’s Director General.

This panel was succeeded by another vibrant panel discussion moderated by Sherbir Panag, Partner at Panag & Babu. The second panel focused on compliance programmes and training, supply chain management as well as due diligence. The eminent panel included Shankar Jadhav, Head, Strategy Legal Commercial Infrastructure Marketing and Corporate Communications at the Bombay Stock Exchange; Vijay Srirangan, Director General, Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Dr. Rajesh Chitre, Chief Compliance Officer, Merck India, and Noor Naqschbandi. The panellists shared their insights on recent policy initiatives on governance and the regulatory environment including practical approaches for businesses to gear themselves to seize the opportunities in a globalised world.

The closing remarks were delivered by Prasad Chandran and Nandini Sharma, Network Manager for Alliance for Integrity in India. The conference was attended by over 70 participants from various industries as well as public sector and civil society organisations.
