Adapting to a protracted crisis situation: Refocusing Indonesia's activities

At the beginning of July, the Advisory Group Indonesia held its quarterly meeting to discuss the upcoming activities of the Alliance for Integrity in the country. Representatives of the Indonesia-HongKong Business Association, the Indonesian chapter of the UN Global Compact Network, Merck Indonesia, the Paramadina University, Transparency International Indonesia, and UNDOC joined the session.

In response to the Government's policy to loosen the social and physical restrictions on a large scale, the group members shared information on their institutional situation and explained how they strategically adapt to the new normal. While some partners of the Alliance for Integrity, such as the Paramadina University, Transparency International Indonesia and the Indonesian chapter of the UN Global Compact Network, are already adapting their working life to the government’s decision and partly return to office, Merck Indonesia encourages its employees to continue working from home.

The members agreed that the Government's easing measures will not affect the planned activities of the initiative. For this reason, the key scopes of the Alliance for Integrity in Indonesia will continue to be the further roll-out of digital DUKU trainings, the empowerment of women-owned SMEs in West Java and the organisation of webinars on different topics that are related to the current situation.

In this context the members highlighted the online trainings on healthcare, cyber security and private procurement. They agreed that the focus should remain on digital activities in order to be prepared for a possible sudden increase of Covid-19 cases and resulting restrictions. In addition, they will further support the Trainers Working Group Asia and the preparation of educational video material on healthcare.  

Following the discussion, the Advisory Group members were informed about the upcoming events that will be carried out by the Alliance for Integrity in all countries the initiative is active in. One highlight will be the Integrity Marathon entitled “Integrity Challenges for Private Procurement in Times of Crisis” that will take place on Tuesday, 04 August 2020. Over 24 hours, on all continents and in seven webinars, experts from all around the world will discuss best practices and challenges on the topic. Indonesia will have a special role to play as they will launch the event.
