The Alliance for Integrity successfully held its second Corruption Prevention Training ‘De Empresas Para Empresas’ in Sao Paulo, which took place at the headquarters of Staples. The trainers Roberta Codignoto (Staples), Lino Gaviolli (Siemens) and Luis Oliveira (OSRAM AG) conducted the training and introduced the participants into the importance of providing incentives for integrity measures within companies as a means for attaining a more transparent business environment.

Reynaldo Goto, Chair of the Advisory Group in Brazil and Head of Compliance at Siemens Brasil, gave a welcoming speech and provided a general overview of best practices and upcoming activities of the initiative.

As part of the introductory module, the trainers contextualized on the relevance of fostering integrity in the private sector, stressing on the negative outcome derived from the existing correlation between corruption and life standard in Brazil.

The training approached general aspects on internal, external and collective measures for preventing corruption within the private sector.

The trainers also provided an overview on external measures against corruption, which can be implemented by SMEs for attaining a domino effect, and by doing so, strengthening integrity within companies and their supply chain. Some free-of-charge tools on anticorruption were presented, which were developed for companies and contribute to widening the range of best practices implemented by SMEs.

During the training, the organizers highlighted the legal and commercial implications and sanctions linked to corruption within the economic and legal system; as well as the risk to the reputation of companies engaged in corrupt practices.

The afternoon session was dedicated to a dynamic activity. The participants were namely split in for different working groups and assigned specific real-life case studies. Afterwards, the groups presented their results in a round table and discussed opportunities and possible solutions to the assigned issues; promoting an environment for brainstorming and exchanging experiences.

The case studies were adapted to the Brazilian context for illustrating the importance of assessing potential risk situations and “grey zones”, where companies may encounter difficulties in the implementation process.

In the training´s last session, the trainers highlighted the relevance of fostering a collective mind-set towards multiplying joint efforts for preventing corruption in Brazil. They also stressed on the value of collective action initiatives such as the Alliance for Integrity.

The participants represented a wide range of organisations and companies. Find out more about our upcoming trainings in our website.
