Alliance for Integrity make input on the Right to Information Bill in Ghana

The Alliance for Integrity has made input to the Right to Information (RTI) Bill, 2018 currently being considered for passage into law by Ghana’s Parliament as part of measures being undertaken by the country to improve transparency and prevent corruption. This follows an invitation by the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs of Parliament.

The passing of the bill is expected to will give meaning to Article 21 (1) (f) of the Constitution of Ghana, which states that “All persons shall have the right to information subject to such qualifications and laws as are necessary in a democratic society”.

The input of the Alliance for Integrity was put together by the Awareness Creation Working Group meeting and endorsed by the Advisory Group in Ghana. It was submitted to the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs of Parliament on 20 April, 2018. The Alliance for Integrity thereafter participated in a Stakeholders’ Conference in Parliament House on 8 May, 2018 to make an oral presentation of the memorandum alongside other organisations that had put in memoranda.

The Alliance Information will participate in further processes that will come up in respect of the passing of the bill into law.
