“We need a European Alliance for Integrity to fight corruption in the private sector” was the key message of the Lab Debate on the topic „Joining Forces: Towards a Collaborative European Approach to Business Integrity“ at the European Development Days 2016 in Brussels.
The invited speakers Gemma Aiolfi, Basel Institute on Governance; Susan Côté-Freeman, Transparency International; Cornelia Godzierz, Linde AG; Stephan Nunner, Austrian Development Agency; and Henrik Lunden, Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation got involved in a lively discussion.
The participants agreed that a European collaboration in the area of corruption prevention in the private sector would be of great value. Cornelia Godzierz illustrated that the implementation of activities on the ground is very important for businesses. According to Gemma Aiolfi a broader coalition against corruption would be necessary to make real progress. Susan Côté-Freeman highlighted the role of the private sector and the need to shift the focus of collective efforts towards this sector. Stephan Nunner und Henrik Lunden affirmed the interest of the Austrian and Norwegian development corporations in a European partnership on anti-corruption.
